Am I Right The Right Therapist For You?

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist in full time private practice in Witney, with over 20 years experience. (A summary of my qualifications and memberships are listed at the end of this page.) My initial training was an eclectic mix of therapies including: CBT & Behavioural Approaches, Psychodynamic & Psychoanalytic Approaches, NLP & Hypnosis and Humanistic Approaches such as Gestalt & Person Centred Therapy.

In continuing to train extensively in and outside of these areas however, I became an Integrative Relational Body Psychotherapist. I have written more about this in the 'Counselling & Psychotherapy Section', but briefly, and to explain this approach to therapy, I will refer to the 3 terms. 'Integrative' refers to there being many different approaches in psychotherapy, each having elements in them which are helpful to the therapy; integrating the different elements of these approaches enables taking the most useful elements of each. 'Relational' is used, as the relationship that occurs between client and therapist is key to the therapy. 'Body' is included to balance the fact that it is an important part of who we are, and many of our emotions and feelings are expressed there.

A wide range of influences - I draw on various developing schools of psychotherapy to find a way of working with you.

In essence I offer counselling & psychotherapy which:
    • can be short or long-term
    • is tailored to you
    • is effective
    • is integrative
    • draws from a wide range of approaches of well-established, tried and tested, reputable theories and techniques
    • includes body and mind & the unconscious

Prior to working as a psychotherapist, I had spent many years participating in and running personal development groups which means that I have spent the last 25 years developing my understanding of, and ability to work with, people on many different levels with a wide range of problems, issues, concerns and needs. An initial session is good place to start to find out if we both feel we can work together. I have a commitment to CPD (Continuing Professional Development) which enables me to continuously be developing my practice, and keep up to date with new developments in the field. I am also fully insured and in regular supervision.

How Do You Decide Who To See?

There are an overwhelming number of different therapy options, and most experts from across the various approaches to counselling and psychotherapy now agree that the relationship you develop with your counsellor or psychotherapist is the most important aspect of the counselling or psychotherapy. Training, experience and therapeutic style will of course have an impact on that relationship.

Finding the right person you can work with is key! - there is no 'one-size fits all' approach to therapy.

If you choose to meet with me, you will find that I relate to you very much as an individual. Even though you will not be alone in your reason(s) for seeking a counsellor or psychotherapist, you are unique! If we feel that you would be better seeing someone else, then I can refer you to someone who matches what you are looking for and need.

If we work together in counselling, psychotherapy, supervision or a group, I will endeavour to provide the best that these approaches have to offer, by drawing from a wide range of approaches and integrating them into something that suits you and is effective in your circumstances.

    Individual Therapy & Couples Counselling

People come to see me for a whole range of different reasons. I work with both couples (heterosexual, gay, parent/child etc) and individuals. You can find further information in the Psychotherapy and Counselling section which can help you decide if you want to contact me, or if you would like to know more about my training, practice and qualifications.

Please email me or phone me on 07977 126330 if you have any queries.

    Therapy Groups & Workshops

Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating at first, but group therapy provides benefits that individual therapy may not. Group members are almost always surprised by how rewarding the group experience can be. You can find out more about the groups that I offer on the Groups & Workshops page.

I offer a variety of low cost psychoeducational workshops which are bite-size opportunities to explore such topics as:

  • What makes couples relationships so difficult?
  • Knowing Yourself & Being Effective
  • Taster sessions for Group Therapy

You can find out more about the workshops on the Groups & Workshops page.

  • Supervision & Professional Development

I offer both individual and group supervision, as well as professional development training groups. You can find out more about these options on the Supervision & Training Page.

    OTS - Witney Therapy Centre

I also run OTS (Oxfordshire Therapy & Self-Development), which is a very large network of practitioners, offering a wide variety of approaches to counselling and psychotherapy, as well as groups and workshops to support people. So if we can’t work together whether because I am full or you are looking for something different, then I can usually refer you to someone with whom you can.

OTS is based at Witney Therapy Centre, which I run, and is where I see my clients. OTS provides groups, 1-1 counselling and psychotherapy, workshops and support groups in Oxford and Witney, and throughout Oxfordshire. OTS also offers a low-cost counselling service for people who can't realistically afford the full cost of therapy. The service is able to offer low costs, as the counselling is provided by advanced trainees, and newly qualified practitioners looking to increase the number of clients they see and gain further experience. All off the counsellors and therapists in the service are fully supervised and insured.

Witney Therapy Centre was set up at the beginning of 2004 to provide low cost and beautiful rooms for therapists. It is ideally placed in the town centre near bus stops and ample parking places around and about. There are four rooms at the Witney Therapy Centre, (including a large group room) which are used by other counsellors and psychotherapists from Witney, Oxford and the Oxfordshire area. Rooms are also rented out to hypnotherapists, acupuncturists, homeopaths etc.

Please email me for further details or queries if you are a practitioner interested in room hire.
