Am I Right The Right Therapist For You?
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist in full time private practice in Witney, with over 20 years experience. (A summary of my qualifications and memberships are listed at the end of this page.) My initial training was an eclectic mix of therapies including: CBT & Behavioural Approaches, Psychodynamic & Psychoanalytic Approaches, NLP & Hypnosis and Humanistic Approaches such as Gestalt & Person Centred Therapy.
In continuing to train extensively in and outside of these areas however, I became an Integrative Relational Body Psychotherapist. I have written more about this in the 'Counselling & Psychotherapy Section', but briefly, and to explain this approach to therapy, I will refer to the 3 terms. 'Integrative' refers to there being many different approaches in psychotherapy, each having elements in them which are helpful to the therapy; integrating the different elements of these approaches enables taking the most useful elements of each. 'Relational' is used, as the relationship that occurs between client and therapist is key to the therapy. 'Body' is included to balance the fact that it is an important part of who we are, and many of our emotions and feelings are expressed there.
In essence I offer counselling & psychotherapy which:
- can be short or long-term
- is tailored to you
- is effective
- is integrative
- draws from a wide range of approaches of well-established, tried and tested, reputable theories and techniques
- includes body and mind & the unconscious
Prior to working as a psychotherapist, I had spent many years participating in and running personal development groups which means that I have spent the last 25 years developing my understanding of, and ability to work with, people on many different levels with a wide range of problems, issues, concerns and needs. An initial session is good place to start to find out if we both feel we can work together. I have a commitment to CPD (Continuing Professional Development) which enables me to continuously be developing my practice, and keep up to date with new developments in the field. I am also fully insured and in regular supervision.
How Do You Decide Who To See?
There are an overwhelming number of different therapy options, and most experts from across the various approaches to counselling and psychotherapy now agree that the relationship you develop with your counsellor or psychotherapist is the most important aspect of the counselling or psychotherapy. Training, experience and therapeutic style will of course have an impact on that relationship.
If you choose to meet with me, you will find that I relate to you very much as an individual. Even though you will not be alone in your reason(s) for seeking a counsellor or psychotherapist, you are unique! If we feel that you would be better seeing someone else, then I can refer you to someone who matches what you are looking for and need.
If we work together in counselling, psychotherapy, supervision or a group, I will endeavour to provide the best that these approaches have to offer, by drawing from a wide range of approaches and integrating them into something that suits you and is effective in your circumstances.
